Detained Ugandan Opposition Leader Besigye on Hunger Strike

Kizza Besigye, a prominent opposition figure in Uganda, has initiated a hunger strike, according to his wife, Winnie Byanyima. This action follows a Supreme Court ruling that prohibited military courts from trying civilians. Despite the ruling, President Yoweri Museveni has stated that his government will continue prosecuting civilians in military courts. Besigye, who faces charges of illegal possession of firearms and treason, remains steadfast against what he considers his illegal detention. However, Ugandan prison spokesperson Frank Baine denies that Besigye is on a hunger strike, asserting that he is in good health.
